Katherine "Kat" Hoyt

Kat Hoyt is the founder and principal attorney of Hoyt Law LLC, recently voted Best Family Law Firm in Alabama for 2026. She focuses her practice on family law, juvenile cases, misdemeanor criminal defense, and wills. Born and raised in Opelika, Katherine has a deep love for her hometown and an abiding commitment to the people she grew up alongside. Her practice is grounded in compassion, empathy, and a genuine desire to help individuals and families navigate some of life's most difficult moments.
After earning her undergraduate degree from Auburn University in 2008, Katherine spent several years working within the court system, where she gained firsthand experience that would shape her approach to the law. In 2013, she built on that foundation by pursuing a legal career at the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law in Montgomery, Alabama.
She graduated in 2016 in the top 15% of her class, earning both a Juris Doctor (J.D.) and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Trial Advocacy and Dispute Resolution. During law school, Katherine served as an editor for the Faulkner Law Review and held leadership roles in Phi Alpha Delta as Secretary and later Vice President.
Today, Katherine is proud to serve her community through a practice built on trust, respect, and personal connection. Whether guiding a family through a divorce, defending the rights of the accused, or helping loved ones make difficult end-of-life decisions, she is dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those she represents.
Being named Best Family Law Firm in Alabama for 2026 reflects that dedication—and the trust her clients and community place in her every day.
